It’s time to pack away heavy layers and moody hues and jump into the new season with an updated wardrobe for your kids. Need some inspiration? We’ve lined up some of the coolest trends – from exciting clashing prints to candy-coated colours – that will ensure your little one is the best dressed in the playground.
Don’t be shy to mix and match prints – the more patterns, the better. Think spots, stripes, florals, tie-dye and animal prints all mixed in a cool chaotic clash. Not only does mixing prints this way mean more cheeky and playful outfit options, but it also brings a fun element to summer dressing.
TOP TIP: Choose prints in the same colour family or break up your clashing prints with separates in a solid hue or denim.
This season, sweeten up your mini-me’s looks with sugar-bright shades. Equally endearing on pretty dresses and swirly skirts as they are practical summer separates such as tees, shorts and sporty sneakers, these sweet pops of rainbow hues will keep them looking super cute and feeling ultra cool.
TOP TIP: Try multiple tones at the same time. Otherwise, introduce the trend slowly with accessories including footwear in delicious ice-cream shades.
While never out of trend, kids’ denim has been redesigned this summer with new cuts and details such as bleached washes, bold print effects, raw edges and distressed finishes. As cool as ever, these denim trends do not only apply to jeans, but denim jackets, dungarees, skirts and shirts, too.
TOP TIP: Think of denim as a neutral colour and mix it with prints, bold colour and interesting textures.
This season has seen a resurgence of classic 80s and 90s sportswear trends with tracksuits, bold graphic tees, baggy joggers and retro windbreakers taking centre stage. In bold colour combos with sporty stripes and functional details, the track star look is back. And thanks to brands such as Nike, Under Armour, Puma, Adidas, Vans and more, you have all the gear your kids will need to pull off this season’s smoothest style.
TOP TIP: If a top-to-toe sporty look isn’t your kid’s thing, mix sporty styles with dresses, shirts, skirts and trousers for a slightly more toned-down edge.
