Between 1986 and 1991 Japan flourished, becoming the second most powerful economy in the world. When Asics introduced alpha gel in its high performance sports models this technological advancement became an instant classic.
The legend lives on today as lifestyle brand ASICSTIGER fuses Japanese heritage and modern flair, with designs ranging from updated classic silhouettes to new styles and collaborations with like-minded artists and cultural connoisseurs. The spirit of Japan continues to resonate in each new collection and the latest offering is the perfect embodiment of the saying "it's big in Japan".
The ASICSTIGER Apparel Collection is designed around versatility, premium materials, and an attention to detail. A first for South Africa, the collection is comprised of a ready-to-wear collection that's effortlessly simple and includes premium graphic Tees and sweats.
Having signed on legendary South African rapper K.O as a brand ambassador (watch this space), Mr. Cashtime is in good company with other leading streetwear authorities on board too.
Motofumi "Poggy" Kogi, the United Arrows & Sons Director has fond childhood memories of the ASICSTIGER brand, and from a global perspective says that people outside of Japan strongly recognize ASICSTIGER as a Japanese brand, which they value to be cool, carefully crafted and precise. Going on to say how street fashion is crossing over with current fashion trends, it all comes down to quality. ASICSTIGER is indeed carefully crafted, and Poggy says that, "The makers are stubborn, but also strongly determined to make quality products. I hope that the ASICSTIGER brand will someday become part of how Japan is perceived from abroad, like 'Sushi, karaoke and ASICSTIGER'".
Founder of New York-based Kith, Ronnie Fieg, has a rich history with the ASICSTIGER brand with collaborations dating back to 2007. He has the following to say about the brand's rich heritage.
"The most inspiring thing to me when thinking about ASICSTIGER's brand heritage is their retro colourways. I've always found it important to understand how those shoes were being colour blocked back then, and why. Seeing their use of bright colours and the risks that the brand took with tech running at that time inspired me to really push the envelope. It made me want to design my own colour schemes that would, in turn, have the same effect on the marketplace."
