Fresh Drop: Onitsuka Tiger x Mickey & Minnie Mouse

Ahead of celebrating 90 years of the world's most iconic duo, Mickey & Minnie Mouse, Onitsuka Tiger has stepped into the beloved world of Disney to design an exclusive range of shoes inspired by the cartoon power couple. 

The four-part collection, including the iconic Mexico 66 and Mexico Delegation, dropped recently and will be followed by a second release in May.

Recreating the classic look and feel inherent within the Disney brand, the collection provides a minimal yet modern twist on two of Onitsuka Tiger's most famous styles. The Mexico 66 Mickey and Mexico Delegation Minnie, which include respective nods to Mickey Mouse's hands and Minnie Mouse's frills, with the sketch-inspired dots and grid versions set to be released in May.

Inspired by the evolution of Mickey Mouse through the years, the Mexico 66 is itself a throwback to several of Asics' earliest running shoes. The first to feature the legendary Tiger Stripes logo, the model was born in 1966 and debuted at the 1968 Olympic Games pre-trials in Mexico City. It has since become one of the brand's most popular shoes from the lifestyle range. 

The Mexico Delegation is a reproduction of the style worn by the Japanese Delegation during the 1968 Olympic Parade of Nations. Both shoes have stood the test of time 50 years on and have kept as close to the original style and structure as possible; including premium materials, legendary Tiger Stripes and design nods to its Olympic heritage. 

Striking a balance between classic and modern is key. The colour variations used are original to Mickey & Minnie Mouse – black, white and red. Original patterns and shapes synonymous with the Disney brand have been applied to each shoe in a different way, creating four classy yet simplistic looks. 

Though each unique in their design, the Onitsuka Tiger X Mickey & Minnie Mouse collection is the perfect marriage of classic meets modern. In keeping with both the design principles of ASICS and Disney, the range is a celebration of class and simplicity - presenting Mickey and Minnie Mouse with the 90th anniversary gift they deserve.
