Disruptors and Classics

The newest selection of sneakers that lets you shake things up or keep it safe

sneakers of the week

March saw some of the biggest brands do the most to launch new sneakers. With some of them featuring right-now aesthetics and others bringing back the best of decades’ past, it’s safe to say there’s an option for everyone. If the selection for Monday’s Air Max Day (or the big drop of the 270) wasn’t your thing, one of these pairs will no doubt fill the void.

adidas Originals Deerupt

Probably the most hyped-up sneaker release of 2018 so far, the Deerupt has been described as the crossroads between minimalism and boldness. The sock-like runner sports a flexible mesh upper and EVA midsole, and the entire shoe is covered with Grid webbing that don’t only give the shoe its futuristic look but provide compression to lock in the zoned foam pockets along the shoe’s interior. The three colourways on offer also amplify the pared-back-meets-loud motif: there’s the all-white option, the Core Black silhouette with white webbing and the standout Solar Red colourway with a luminous red upper and blue midsole.

PUMA Suede Classic

PUMA Suede Classic

We can’t talk about classics without mentioning the Puma Suede Classic. As one of the first go-to shoes for breakdancers in the 80s, these sneakers have gone on to be among the most iconic shoes of all time. This iteration features a millennial pink colourway for a sleek look on both the upper and rubber sole. The sides have perforations for added breathability and the inner sole and collar are padded for comfortable cushioning.

New Balance ML574EGG

Another new drop is the ML54EGG, an all-grey iteration of New Balance’s 574 silhouette from 1988. Featuring a timeless combination of suede and mesh on the upper, the shoes utilise ENCAP technology that offers not only softer cushioning but more support and durability. If you’re looking for something to complement your autumn/winter colour palette and match with your rotation of chinos, jeans and joggers, you’ve found the ideal pair.

Nike Special Field Air Force One

If you’re tired of low tops and under-the-radar high-tops, go bold in these military-inspired kicks. This Special Field AF1’s Dusty Peach colourway is ideal for anyone’s autumn/winter colour palette, as is the combination of suede and nylon on the upper. The Swoosh is subtle thanks to the overall tonal look, but the extra-high collar and ankle straps make all the statement you need. Pair them with black skinnies and a chunky oversized knit for an everyday casual look.
