Malibongwe Tyilo

5 fashion Qs for a fashion media maven

Even though he hasn’t fed his website for the last six months, Malibongwe Tyilo will always be known as the acerbic wit behind Skattie. And by the look of things, Mali has also put himself on a bit of a diet, something that’s resulted in his dressing even more stylishly than before. The digital editor at Elle magazine is a go-to columnist for the country’s finest glossies and a regular at any event worth being invited to, which is why we asked him to answer the following five fashion questions:

So, what are you wearing?
Today is a terrible day to ask that question. I’m wearing what I like to refer to as ‘cool dad, works in advertising’ look. A blue and white gingham check, fatigue skinny chinos, and LOSERS sneakers.

If you could only wear one brand for the rest of your life what would it be and why?
I couldn’t ever ever ever wear one brand, but if you put a gun to my head and I had to choose, I’d be happy every day in Lukhanyo Mdingi’s designs.

What does fashion need more of?
In SA, fashion definitely needs more consumers to pay attention to and support our local designers.

Who is the future of fashion?
I really don’t know, but I think now more than every the man/woman on the streets is the most important person in fashion. Our choices define so much fashion direction.

Which trends are you into right now?
I’m obsessed (and have been for a long time) with silhouettes that favour exaggerated volume at the top and fitted shapes at the bottom. Oversized tops whether shirts, kimonos, tees, or kaftans.
