SUPERBSQUAD

Meet our team of party starters, they only come out at night

Words: Phillipa Crooks | Photography: Katinka Bester

SUPERBSQUAD assemble! Meet the dream team: Nik, Tukiya, Lasse, Azuli, Gandhi and Rolien – also known as our favourites! We dressed them in party gear, the type of stuff you grab when the invite says 'smart-casual', and then got them to tell us what gets them going and where they like to get going to.

What is your getting amped song?

'William Onyeabor', Good Name

What are your favourite dancing shoes?

My chunky Roman-Catholic nun shoes.

What makes you feel all dressed up and ready to go?

A fresh top usually does it.

What is your ideal night out?

Small group, house party, spinning some records, drinking kak champers... Then hit some sweaty hole - Evol - and much, much later cool down with a drunk dip at Clifton.

Where do you go out?

Evol, Club Med.

What song gets you amped before a night out?

Primal Scream, 'Loaded'.

What are your dancing shoes?

Anything slippery that lets me slide my feet. Black school shoes are good, or my Camel cigarette cowboy shoes from the 80s. (Yes, Camel used to make clothing too).

What do you look for in a night out?

It's all about the music for me. I have a very particular music taste (handy in warding off a-holes), I’m into Motown, Psyche, Funk.

What makes you feel ready for a night out?

Usually a pit stop at Timbuk-Tu for an Ethiopian coffee.

Where do you like to go out?

I really love the Soul Inn (Berlin), with its half-moon leather couches. I also like karaoke, so, Manila Bar.

What song gets you amped before a night out?

'Nonchalant', 5 O'Clock.

Are you a flats or heels kinda girl, and what are your favourite dancing shoes?

Flats. I go for comfort every time. I’d say my suede Grasshoppers, the burgundy ones that I dyed myself.

What is your idea of a good time?

Being with my best friends, who are like my family. As long as there’s good music we’ll make a vibe.

What is your ideal night out?

A get-together at a friend's house. We’ll just buy drinks and chill out. I don’t go out as much as I used to.

What song gets you amped before a night out?

'Cowboys From Hell', by Pantera.

What's your favourite pair of dancing shoes?

You can’t go wrong with a pair of Vans.

What makes you feel all dressed up and ready to go?

Moustache wax.

How would you describe a perfect night out?

Going to a gig, then heading out for a night on the town and then just seeing where you end up. As long as you’re with friends it’s a good night.

Where do you go out?

Village Idiot, Era.

What song gets you amped before going out?

At the moment it's 'Eternal Reveal' by Ratking.

Are you a flats or heels girl? What are your favourite dancing shoes?

Flats through and through. I don't get dressed up to go dancing so whatever shoes I'm wearing that day will be my dancing shoes.

What makes you feel ready to go?

As I said, I don't really get dressed up. I rarely get the chance to go home before going out so the most effort I'll make is maybe putting on some red lipstick – if I happen to have some on me.

What's your ideal night out? What’s your vibe?

Mostly bars, or friend's places, ideally somewhere with not too many people and enough space to dance.

Where do you go out?

Yours Truly early in the afternoon, before the masses arrive and turn the place into anxiety city.
