SHIMMY AND SHINE INTO SPRING

The whispering of longer days and warmer nights comes with the arrival of accessories fit for a Grecian island getaway. While we’re not in full holiday mode just yet, we’re happy to let our accessories set the tone. Our bags have been zapped into smaller versions, now that we don’t need to carry around extra layers. Our silk scarves, no longer purely for warmth, are tied loosely around our hair. And layers of gold jewellery are sitting pretty on sun-kissed skin. Summer, we’re coming for you.

Printed scarves are taking centre stage to add dimension to your look, much like the neckerchief you wore around your neck during winter. Tie back your box braids or add extra pizzazz to a ponytail or plait. For ultimate ease, keep a silk scarf tied on your bag at all times, ready to Hot Girl Summer your hair at the drop of a hat.

Layered necklaces achieve a much-desired bohemian look sans tangled clasps. When it comes to pendants, we’re in a sentimental mood and opting for charmed bracelets reminiscent of past holidays. For a maximalist approach, choose a heftier chain filled with tinkling vintage coins. The key here is wearing what feels like the treasures you’ve collected on many exciting journeys.

For the 2019 version of a glistening tiara, an assortment of elaborate hair clips is the way to go. Stick in as many clips, barrettes and slides as you like, whether your hair is long or short. Match the colours and embellishments while daydreaming about your 8-year-old self: the more clips, the better.

Just like your green juice, this season’s “it” earring is shaped organically. With a looser, asymmetric form and textured metal, these earrings are far from the perfectly rounded hoops you’ve been wearing all year. They’re refreshingly mismatched and can be worn as a pair or individually, so why not take a simple outfit to new heights?

Deceivingly practical, the mini-bag trend is hard to resist. It ensures that we’re carrying only the necessities and it compactly embodies the spirit we’d like to carry into summer: no excess baggage allowed. Whether taking on the appearance of your favourite carry-all (but smaller) or lunchbox, the teeny-tiny bag is a season must-have.

The micro-sunglasses trend has come and gone and, truthfully, our eyes are thankful. The 180° turn has resulted in oversized shield-like sunglasses in all forms: aviators, wraparound glasses or jungle-sized cat eyes. Essential for sun protection, these sunnies cover half your face with half the effort.
