The silly season is finally here and that means we’ll be out and about, doing the absolute most, turning every moment into a celebration and making memories that we’ll be reminiscing about well into the new year. So naturally it’s important that your fashion needs are met to ensure that you’re always prepared for a good time.
Year-end fashion trends often sit on opposite ends of the spectrum, you’re either taking it easy in a cute playsuit and sneakers or going all out in an over-the-top dress, stilettos and a full face beat. If this year’s summer style trends are anything to go by, you should be all decked out in bold, show stopping, glamorous pieces, anything that evokes 80s disco fashion feels. Think polished metallics, dazzling glitter and shimmering gold with all the extra trimmings because if you’re going to go out then you should probably go OUT OUT.
If you’re not quite sure of how to pull off this trend then you might want to take a few notes from some of the local celebs who walked the red carpet at the 22nd anniversary of the South African Style Awards.
Our girl, Moozlie wore a gold disco diva mini-dress by David Tlale that’s available on Superbalist. Designed with a low neckline, 80s-inspired puffy cap sleeves complete with a daring bow detail, this dress is ideal for a fun night out with the girls or any event that calls for excessive glitz and glamour. Moozlie completed this look with shimmery nails, a face beat that has a gold finish and wet hair look.
Cue 'I’m coming out' by Diana Ross. Giving us retro glamour feels, Lalla Hirayama who was also dressed by David Tlale, looked stunning in a gold off-the-shoulder dress that flaunts her decolletage. Featuring double bow detail and a tasteful slit, Lalla styled her dress with bent metal earrings. The perfect fit for a black-tie event.
DJ, TV presenter and this year’s winner of Most Stylish Media Personality, Lerato Kganyago is known to love a well-fitted suit and there is no denying that she wears them really well. This time Lerato opted for a metallic suit with vintage floral prints, keeping the make-up and accessories to a minimum and letting the exquisite suit do all the work.
Serving “casual wealth” goals, model and medical student Karishma Ramdev kept it simple and sophisticated in a glittering sequin bralette with a deep cherry blossom hue skirt and rose gold stilettos. This minimally glamourous look will guarantee you the title of “best dressed guest” at any wedding this season.
The belle of the ball and this year’s Most Innovative Style winner, Sho Madjozi looked ethereal in an outfit that is a result of a collaboration between fashion giants Rich Mnisi, Thebe Magugu and Orapeleng Modutle. The outfit appears to be a modern take on the Tsonga Xibelani which is a major part of Madjozi’s signature look. Channel this refreshing yet glamorous look and top it off with solid bright accessories such as a clutch bag or a statement earrings.
