Superbalist is bringing you more fashion and choice and with that in mind our plus-size offering has been extended to include more options; giving you more on-trend pieces from the best brands to ensure that you look and feel good no matter the occasion.

The trend reports are all in and we’ve made our inclination for bold blooms, brights and updated basics as the pieces for the season. We’ve collaborated with body activist, model and self-proclaimed ‘Queen of cellulite city’, Miss Curvy Lala to show off what you should be buying into this summer and how you can style these gorgeous pieces.

With over 65k followers on Instagram, she uses her page to create a platform to openly discuss body politics, “it’s about fighting for body diversity and embracing people of different shapes and size”. Her fashion rules? “don’t let fashion rules dictate to you, make sure you feel comfortable and confident, let your style be a reflection of you” and she’s definitely serving all that and more.

Wear the season on your sleeve in bold tropical print pieces. While florals have always been a staple feature in the summertime, we love that this trend presents itself in various styles and interpretations. Take this leaf print dress for example, it looks good and immediately commands attention. The monochrome hues allow the leaf prints to be the focal point of the dress while the split sleeves add a bit of sass to the look. Miss Curvy Lala is a fan of this trend as it defies a few myths about plus dressing, “if the colours are right and the print is pretty, why not wear it?” Style your leafy items with bright and edgy accessories to ensure that you stand out this summer.

Summer fashion is often centred around big and bold colours and patterns, making sure that your outfit does the talking and SS18 fashion is no different but if you’re not a fan of scene-stealing brights then the new neutrals should be right up your alley. A contemporary take on traditional brights, the new neutrals allow you to play around with colour in a more laid back way. Pastel hues and soft tones have come to the forefront as the new neutrals, allowing you to try out different colours without looking like a hot mess. This multicolour scuba dress by the great David Tlale commands attention with minimal effort. According to Miss Curvy Lala, “body-hugging, colourful dresses, pencil skirts and sexy swimwear are must-have pieces this summer.” Style it up with basic heels or style it down with on-trend chunky sneakers that also speak to the new neutrals trend.

Few things adequately express relaxed summer fashion quite like a chic two-piece set. They’re amazing because they require minimal styling and are a lot more practical than a playsuit or a jumpsuit. A two-piece set is a good investment because it it can be worn as a set or you can style the top or bottom piece with other outfits. Lala describes the two piece set as “the ultimate summer outfit because it is bold and can be styled with heels to add height and minimal accessories to complement the already bold look.” This leaf print set is great because it displays multiple trends; leaf prints, asymmetrical cuts and flared bottoms. If you opt for a bold set, pair it with bold and unusual sunglasses – Miss Curvy Lala's go-to accessory this season.

The beauty of asymmetrical fashion is that it requires little-to-no effort on your part. Add an edgy element to your look with ease by wearing asymmetrical pieces such as a one-shoulder top or jumpsuit, a high-low skirt or dress or any piece with a jagged edge. This trend can be interpreted through pieces that have asymmetrical patterns and prints and it works well with both formal and casual looks. Miss Curvy Lala is serving both asymmetrical and volume goals in this Miriam asymmetric top that is slightly cinched in at the waist to flaunt Lala’s curves while the one-shoulder has ruched detail to give the top glamourous volume. “I love pieces that accentuate my curves, I’m not trying to hide my body even if the tight fit reveals I have tummy and back rolls.”. Lala particularly loved this piece because “it is edgy and chic.” Style the top with ankle grazer denim jeans for a more casual look or style it up with a trendy midi skirt.

Accessories are having a moment right now and whether you prefer big, beautiful accessories or you like to keep it simple you are guaranteed to find the right pieces to complete your look you way. If you’re opting for a simple summer dress then you should consider styling it with accessories that are adorned with distinctive details. Miss Curvy Lala has styled her basic summer dress with a white, studded cowboy belt that adds definition to her look, completing it with a stitched white bag that compliments the belt and the clean aesthetic.
