Give the eclectic mix a listen and read our short interview with Blinky Bill, after the jump.
What's your sound story?
I grew up around music and was one of the founding members of electronic and art collective Just A Band that has put out three albums
How did you come up with your alias?
In high school a couple of guys used to call me Blinky Bill after the cartoon character and the name stuck after I started actively performing.
Where have you played and what's your local?
I have played in very many places around the world, SXSW, Summerstage in NYC, Cape Town International Jazz Festival, TED in Vancouver and Rio... My local? Blankets and Wine in Nairobi.
Which festivals/gigs/events are you most looking forward to this summer?
They are still lining up so I still am not sure but my team is hard at work figuring it out, I hope that there are some SA gigs lined up.
What was the first album you ever bought? I bought a Tupac Shakur album, Me Against the World.
Describe your dance style.
I make up dance styles, it's easier because everyone dances better than me!
What's in the mix you made us?
I made sure to keep it as eclectic as it can, so there's some 20syl, Calvin Harris, Mos Def, Busta Rhymes, Tom Misch some unreleased Goldlink remix, I also show some love to HHP, and this guy from Nairobi called Blinky amongst other tastefully selected delights.
Which acts do you love sharing a stage with?
I love sharing the stage with anyone who is dope, I was almost gonna play a show that had Mura Masa and was super excited about it, but had already been booked on the same date to play alongside Baloji so it worked out well!
What's the most exciting thing about music right now?
I've just released my new album and I'm pretty excited to see how far it goes, some people are just discovering me and my work so I want to play to as many different audiences as possible.
