A versatile fabrication that works for everyone, denim will always be a part of our wardrobes, a thing that won’t change in 2018 – even with all the plot twists. And just because they are traditional essentials that are safe and fit into just about any closet, it doesn’t mean you can’t get daring, inventive and even up-to-the-minute when doing your seasonal restock. We’re not suggesting that you completely overlook the classics, but encouraging you to seize the opportunities to get really fashionable with the staple; they're often staring at you dead in the eye. With power trousers being a major fashion moment right now, here are five trendy jean updates that need your immediate attention...

Reworked/ patchwork denim

The 70s patchwork denim look is a nostalgic trend that makes an appearance in different ways, ever so often – we might have Vetements to thank for this wave: especially with their Levi’s collab. But we knew it was a look that’s here to stay when it got the nod from Christian Dior.

Denim "sweatpants"

"Sports luxe" and "athleisure" have been part of our style vocabulary for nearly a decade now, and they have transformed in many ways, even giving rise to the mountain chic gorpcore. One of the trends resurfacing from the mid-2000s, nothing is as on beat as the jogger-esque side stripe detail on denims, this season.

Culotte denim

A roll over trend from the past couple of seasons, culottes are the power trousers to own and wide leg denims are a current favourite. This is probably one you’ll still be able to get away with wearing long after the mainstream wave passes.

Cropped flare denim

Flared denim has risen – both literally and figuratively. Coming through with a range of benefits, the Jane Birkin-esque silhouette is figure flattering and allows you to flaunt your footwear with ease. A street style star favourite, this one has been spotted on the likes of Alexa Chung and Jeanne Damas, with its level of mass appeal we’re probably going to start making a case for it as a classic, soon.

Dark denim

A forever fave that never fails, classic dark wash jeans are a style that might live through every season – and with good reason. It has an incredibly polished, almost professional look to it, which means you can get away with wearing it to the office or having fun with different types of Canadian Tuxedo vibes with it.
