sneakers of the week

From athletic silhouettes for running and lifting to skater classics and grown-up minimalist pairs in leather, you can never go wrong with low-top sneakers. Whether you’re into showing off your ankles or statement socks, cuff, stack or pinroll your pants, wear them with dresses or flex on everyone at the office, there’s a pair (or several) for everyone. Here are five of the latest that give new meaning to aiming high and shooting low.

adidas Originals Climacool

adidas Originals Climacool 02-17

Since Kanye started sporting the all-white UltraBOOST and later, his own Yeezy BOOSTs, more and more sneaker silhouettes have gone back to their athletic look and performance-enhancing features. The Climacool is one of them, and the 15th anniversary version of the original bestseller comes with a few changes. Still sporting a Climacool® mesh upper and EVA midsole for added cushioning, the 02-17 also comes with a new gum side panel on the sole, giving it a futuristic look, but also additional support. Silhouettes like this look great with joggers and pinrolled jeans, but you can channel the 90s with cuffed straight-leg jeans for a look straight of A Different World.

Puma Basket Satin

Puma Basket Satin - Peach Beige/Puma White

Swap out the hard knock streets and basketball courts for centre stage with these pretty and pink Basket sneakers. Featuring an elegant satin-like textured upper and soft, monochromatic lines, snug fitting lace closure for an extra-feminine flair, they’ll channel the spirit of prima ballerina Misty Copeland and have you doing pirouettes with style and grace.

adidas Originals Forum Lo

adidas Originals Forum Lo

For something even more retro, give the Forum Lo a testwalk. First released in 1984, they were originally made for basketball players as both a high- and low-top. The latter has endured, and still features the same look — a durable leather upper, rubber sole and forever-essential three stripes on the side — and even includes an adjustable strap across the midfoot.

Reebok Club C 85 Trim NBK

Reebok Club C 85 Trim NBK - Pale Pink/White

Originally designed as a tennis shoe, the Club C has made it’s off the courts and into the sneaker collections and shoe closets of every IT girl including Gigi Hadid who’s the current face of the Diamond campaign. With plush diamond patterned padded foam sockliner, super soft nubuck leather upper in a modern muted pink tone, we wouldn’t blame you for never wanting to leave the house in these sneakers.

Asics Gel-Lyte V Dark Forest

Asics Gel-Lyte V Dark Forest

Dad sneakers stand out by default, especially among the sea of more popular and easier-to-style understated options out there. But if you want to go the extra mile, these suede Gel-Lytes by Asics should fit the bill. They come with a contrasting heel panel and eye-catching overlays over a mesh off-blue upper, giving the old-school look a more modern aesthetic.
