What the style maven and fashion authority wore and saw at #MBFWJ17
By Lulama Wolf
As the business of fashion begins to boom locally, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week has grown to become more accessible to the public, compared to previous years. The venue change, from Nelson Mandela Square and previously Melrose Arch, to Mall of Africa has allowed people better space to interact and network. With the mall courtyard being nearby, one wasn’t confined to just the media lounge, and hanging out in the parking lot sort of stripped away the pretentiousness you may find at fashion dos.
The Xperience AFI emerging designers showcase, which aims to encourage fashion-savvy millennials to explore and celebrate their style creativity within the African context, was the biggest highlight for me. I think this will really change how we see MBFW going forward, and it kind of reminded me of Paris Fashion Week. Hosted by The Threaded Man, Experience AFI ensured that youth culture was represented at the shows with a line-up that was created for show-goers to experience fashion from various angles.
Here's a mini-diary of the rest of my #MBFWJ17 experience.
