After Frank Rudy developed Air in the late 70s and Tinker Hatfield exposed it in 1987 with the Air Max 1, this cushioning technology has grown to become an item of cultural significance that’s celebrated the world over.
Air Max Day is an ode to the audacious design, and has Nike releasing Air Max sneakers in the month of March in the lead up to the 26 March 2017.
The Way of Us reached out to our favourite sneakerheads, asking them to choose their favourite Airs from Superbalist’s offering.
Hayden Manuel | Nike Air Max 90 Ultra 2.0 Flyknit OG
The nightmare in Nike Air is an art thug, culture nerd and was featured on Destiny Man’s 40 Most Powerful Under 40 list.
"I'm a big fan of Flyknit and Air Max 90s, so when the two come together and gets the Infrared treatment it's a must have!"
Devon Daniels | Nike Air Max 90 Ultra 2.0 Flyknit Black & White
A graffiti artist, tattoo fiend and Superbalist’s sneaker buyer, Devon Daniels’ motivation for his Air Max sneaker of choice was simple, if not slightly obscure…
“Because Karl! Oh and I like Milk & Cookies.”
Justin Ronne | Nike Air Max 90 Ultra 2.0 Flyknit OG
As the founder of Bubble Koppe and the man with one of the most covetable sneaker collections in the country, Justin is committed to all things Air Max.
“The AM90 Ultra Flyknit is a hybrid of an icon from the past, updated with Nikes present day technology. The Infrared colourway has always been a winner for me personally. I like that Flyknit has finally come to the AM90, it will have a much better fit with improved comfort.”
Zaid Osman | Nike Air Max 90 Ultra 2.0 Flyknit OG
Zaid Osman of Lost Property and Sneaker Exchange makes his living from flipping footwear and sourcing difficult to find kicks, even though he has very rare sneakers in his collection he can still appreciate a modern classic.
“I pick the Air Max 90 Ultra Flyknit, for the following reasons. It's an OG color (The AM90 Infrared OG is actually one of my all time favourite sneakers). Its an AM90, which is my favourite model, and it's flyknit! Anything flyknit is always a winner.”
Anthea Poulos | Nike W Air max 90 Ultra 2.0 Flyknit Laser Pink
Anthea Poulos is the boss who know best and her company, The Bread, not only allows her to wear sneakers to work, but also do the work that matters to her.
“I’ve been obsessed with this colourway for as long as I can remember. I copped my first pair around 2011 if my memory is accurate. They ended up getting stolen and I finally managed to replace them years later when they relaunched with the lunar sole. There’s no question that this is my select. Flyknit is my favourite sneaker tech for comfort and breathability and now in my all time favourite colourway. I’m sold.”
Kitsi Sebati | Nike Air Max 90 Ultra 2.0 Flyknit Rough Green
This producer at Lampost Productions loves sneakers for how comfortable they are, the exclusivity factor on certain pairs, the history behind certain sneakers and the myriad colour ways. Her choice in the Pantone colour of 2017 is fresh, symbolic of new beginnings and is nature's neutral.
“It's super light, and comfortable, and the colour ways are rad!”
