A junior fashion editor at Cosmopolitan shares her favourite autumn/winter items
Cleo Marcopoulos might just have the best job in the world. As the junior fashion editor of Cosmopolitan she gets to spend her days shopping and, sure, there’s also writing, styling, casting, hunting down props, but all of these things are deeply rooted in fashion, too.
A huge fan of glossies, Cleo studied a BA degree in Media and Writing at UCT, started a blog and did an internship at GQ Magazine. When an opportunity came up – Cleo was working as a hostess at a restaurant when the fashion editor of ELLE walked in – Cleo slipped a note in with her bill and scored a new internship and, well the rest is history.
The Way of Us asked Cleo to select her favourite items from Superbalist’s autumn winter offering, which, despite her excitement to indulge in plush velvet and glossy patent, it’s clear how she’s a fan of classic items that can be styled in multiple ways.
“From chic mule flats, to a chunky knit – these are all key players in a 2017 winter wardrobe. And boots are everything! From classic black block heeled boots to electric silver low-heeled boots – boots are the winter essential.”
Keep up with Cleo on Instagram and Twitter and in the March issue of Cosmopolitan magazine, which includes her editorial on tailored garments ‘Suit Yourself’. Otherwise, use her six layering tips and get transitional dressing right this season.
Cleo’s layering tips
Play with necklines. For instance, I love wearing a polar neck under a lower neckline for a two dimensional effect. Throw a biker over that if you’re an over achiever.
Maximise the usage of your crisp white shirt. Pop it under a knit for an effortless chic look in terms of its collar peeping out or the last two buttons sticking out.
Give monochrome colour a go. Choose a colour and wear it head-to-toe. For instance fifty shades of grey or even pink (a major colour this season) is a chic winter look.
Keep up-to-date by layering modern silhouettes. For instance, wear culottes or wide leg trousers under a shift dress.
A flash of denim. Let your jeans peak out from underneath a long dress, or wear your denim jacket under a leather jacket or coat.
'Tis the season of bustiers and corsets. Layer a white shirt or one colour top with a corset belt or strapless bustier styled top for a trendy look.
