First, glazed doughnut nails took the beauty community by storm, then Latte makeup was the go-to look. Now, the Strawberry Girl look is taking the beauty social media sphere.
Popularised by Hailey Bieber, Strawberry Girl makeup is the evolution of Clean Girl makeup that saw a more natural makeup look becoming the norm post the 2021 skincare boom.
This trend is easy to recreate and incorporate into your existing routine. Here’s how to get it and turn your face into a strawberry dream.
Good skin equals good makeup application. Since this is a minimal coverage look, you need to make sure your skincare routine is on-point. For this, dewy products that offer a healthy sheen such as the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour® Cream Intensive Daily Moisturizer and Standard Beauty Moisture Bomb Lightweight Moisturiser are important.
Even if you have oily skin, you’ll still need a hint of glow so opt for oil-controlling primers with the Revlon PhotoReady Rose Glow™ Hydrating & Illuminating Primer or M·A·C Studio Radiance Dew Drench All-Day Hydrating Primer that will keep the shine at bay without looking matte.
In Hailey's routine, a small amount of concealer in her highlight shade is used on the inside corners of the under-eye, centre of the chin and forehead, plus corners of her mouth. While that might be enough coverage for her, we mere mortals might need a bit more help.
A skin tint is the best option since it evens out your skin without looking like you have anything on. Go for the Rimmel - Kind & Free Skin Tint or Clarins Skin illusion that offers sheer to light coverage.
Add some dimension with a cream or powder bronzer, warm-toned foundation or concealer that’s darker than your actual shade in the areas you would usually bronze. Try the Pixi Beauty On-the-Glow Bronze or L'Oreal Paris Infallible More Than Concealer which has a luminous finish.
The star of the show is blush. If you think you’ve added enough, add more. This is not the time to be shy. Start from the apples of the cheek to the temples, brushing a small amount on the bridge of your nose. Go for a bright red or deep pink stick or powder blush from Benefit Cosmetics Playtint Lip & Cheek Stain, Pixi Beauty On-the-Glow Blush or Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Blush.
Next, you’ll want to add faux freckles to replicate the appearance of a strawberry with a dark brown or black eye pencil with the Estée Lauder Double Wear 24H Waterproof Gel Eye Pencil, Yardley London Soft Kajal Eye Pencilor Black Opal Precision Eye Definer Pencil.
Place dots sporadically throughout your face, lightly blending them with your finger to make it look more natural.
No your skin but better look is complete without a little something on the eyes. Blend and buff your bronzer throughout the crease of your eyelid to create dimension in your eye area. Adding a subtle wing with Stila Stay All Day® Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner or Nifti 2in1 Eyeliner Stamp Pen and give your lashes some extra va va voom with M·A·CStack Mega Mascara or hey gorgeous Pure Wild Volumising Mascara.
Finish the Strawberry Girl makeup look with a glossy lip combo. First, line your lips with a brown lipliner, blending the centre to avoid any harsh lines. Try the M·A·C Lip Pencil or W7 Cosmetics All-Rounder Colour Pencil depending on which shade works for you. Paired with a pink gloss or lip oil completes this dewy forward makeup look.
