Party season is almost upon us and even if you're not the makeup type, there’s no better time to try out new colours and OTT beauty looks – even if they will be marvelled from a social distance. We’re crushing on the glittering negative-space lined eye. Bold, sophisticated and definitely eye-catching, this striking metallic look is actually easier to achieve than you may think.

Before you apply your foundation, it’s essential to massage a hydrating serum or moisturiser into your skin. This will not only boost circulation, which will promote a fresh glowing complexion, but it will also prevent your foundation from caking. Apply a primer to help blur imperfections, even out skin tone and increase the longevity of your makeup.

With a brush or sponge, buff in your foundation. Starting at the centre of your face, swirl it out towards your hairline as this creates more of a natural finish. Next, use a concealer to cover up unwanted blemishes and persistent dark circles.

Also known as tightlining, this step is crucial for an intense and defined eye look. For the eyes, rest a black eyeliner pencil between the roots of your lashes and carefully trace it along your upper and bottom waterlines. Bold, defined brows are key for a statement eye. The quickest way to add depth to your brows and enhance their shape is to fill them in with a pencil or powder, brush them up with a spoolie and set them with a brow gel.

After priming your lids with a setting powder or nude eye shadow, start by creating a classic cat eye along your lash line with a gold liquid or gel liner (these are best for creating a sharp line). Then, from the end of that initial wing tip, create a line that goes up along the crease of your eyelid. Complete the look by applying a few coats of mascara in a zig-zag motion for maximum impact.

When wearing a bold eye, it’s best to keep the rest of your face relatively low-key. A touch of highlighter on your cheekbones and along the bridge of your nose and a flush of rosy blush on the apples of your cheeks will add a subtle and soft glow to the overall look.

When it comes to lips, apply the same rule as above and keep it super simple. Think natural hues and creamy finishes that pair perfectly with your dramatic eye.
