Need some new music for your summer braais or beach parties? We’ve got you covered. This week, we feature a hot mix from the DJ duo Jay Em. Brothers Waven and Ruwayne Sebia are originally from the Eastern Cape and mix tracks that bring groove-factor to many a dance floor. Inspired by KAYTRANADA, Zikomo, Soulection and Black Coffee, their musical ear is rooted in funk, soul, hip-hop and jazz. Jay Em’s big break arrived when record label owner and one of South Africa’s finest music producers, Kid Fonque, released a four-track EP produced by the duo. They’ve since played mixes on 5FM, collaborated with brands and most recently entered – and won – a competition by local house trio Mi Casa to remix their hit single Nana. “I got introduced to them through Kid Fonque and I was blown away by their unique sound. Something in me told me that these guys deserve to be known,” says J’Something of Mi Casa.
