“If I look at what my career and life was 10 years ago, a lot has happened,” says writer-director Zandi TIsani. “I’ve made a lot of strides and grown a lot over time. But being a creative, it’s not like you have to retire at 35. I’m not a soccer player. I’m not going to peak in my 20s or early 30s. I’m only looking to peak when I’m 45 or 50. I don’t have that pressure of needing to get there now.” And she’s onto a sure thing. Caught the latest Takealot ad featuring none other than Coconut Kelz? That was Zandi – and it’s a drop in the ocean when considering the game-changing work that Zandi’s either spearheaded or been involved in. Her teams have won SAFTAs for TV scriptwriting, she’s styled for artist Kudzanai Chiurai and the national treasure that used to be Rolling Stone South Africa ever so briefly, directed a Zaki Ibrahim music video, a short film, web series and plenty a compelling commercial campaigns. We’ve heard her being referred to as the film industry’s next big thing, but looks like her bigness is happening right now.
