Alpha-hydroxy acids are a group of acids, namely glycolic and lactic acid, that are primarily used to exfoliate. They help promote collagen in your skin and increase blood flow, treat hyperpigmentation and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Beta-hydroxy acids are another type of chemical exfoliant, better suited to oily or acne-prone skin. BHAs penetrate blocked pores and dissolve excess sebum and dead skin cells that can lead to breakouts. If AHAs and BHAs are too strong for you and you have sensitive or dry skin, try PHA, polyhydroxy acids.

UVA light accounts for 95% of the UV light we’re exposed to and it’s much more dangerous than its UVB counterpart. However, it’s best to just get protection from them both.
