How does it feel to be one of GQ's Best Dressed Man of the Year?
First of all just to be nominated in the top 10 alone is a huge fashion accolade, one that a lot of us imagine and low key wish for but never imagine would ever happen, but over and above to be named the number one best dressed man of the year, now that was just unexpected and beyond cool.
I’m a huge supporter of the fashion industry and I use my creative aesthetic to show people how they can incorporate local designs to their mainstream wardrobes – through my published writing and social media.
I’m always cognizant to use it to promote the fun, expressive side of fashion as well as give young designers a platform that might give them their break, so this award is like the industry to a degree turning back and saying, “we see what your unique style and versatility brings to the table and what it adds to the general style narrative, keep it up”.
What are your plans for the festive season?
As part of my work throughout the year I have to be out and about, locally and abroad, so this festive season when work slows down, it’s time for me to actually stay in one place and unwind. I’ll be staying in Cape Town for most of it, and then for Christmas I’ll be going to Durban.
What’s your ideal gift for this festive season?
I’m a huge fan of sneakers, but I NEVER ever know which ones to buy, currently obsessing over the new Puma, Nike and Adidas range – so if a friend or family member could take out the guess work and gift one a pair of sneakers they think suit me best that’d be rather neat.
What gift are you planning on giving your loved ones this festive season?
A holiday to Cape Town for my younger siblings as a reward for doing well at school (They’re straight-A cool nerds so they deserve the spoil). Naturally once they are here, they always want to shop, they are 14 and 15 years old so they are all about Snapbacks and chunky kicks.
What item of clothing is a must have this summer?
Pink chinos, whether you’re preppy or a skater, you need a pair of dusky pale pink chinos in any shape/cut that serves your chosen subculture.
