A fanny pack convert shows you how to wear the bumbag according to your fashion fave

Ah the fanny pack – or bum bag, or moon bag, or in its most recent reinvention, the belt bag – a versatile, functional and longstanding friend, and sometimes foe, of fashion.
In its original incarnation the belt pouch was first found on a frozen caveman from (not so glamorous, but whatever) and re-emerged in the Victorian era, as well as appearing in Scottish history, to finally appear on 80s boy band fave, New Kids on the Block. In the early 90s it experienced fashion popularity, but since then had slunk into decidedly 'uncool' territory only to be worn by your dad, safari rangers and that confused tourist staring at an upside-down map.
Think back to a few years ago, and the bum bag elicits visions of an awkward, pale and nerdy middle-aged man wearing thick rimmed spectacles and ugly trainers (both of which are also really fashionable now).
Nowadays the belt bag brings to mind the most likes of Kendall Jenner, ASAP Rocky and Rihanna, procuring lust-inducing visuals of Marc Jacobs, Prada and Gucci collections and the latest offerings of structured, faux leather bags fastened to a stylish belt.
Having previously been on the other side of the moonbag argument, I now consider fanny packs to be truly cool, and I'm glad that I've been converted just in time for festival season. Here's how to wear them...
Around the hip like Rihanna
Riri has been wearing the belt bag a lot lately, and her favourite way-to-wear is to buckle it effortlessly around the hips. While we're on the subject, hipster jeans are also back in FYI, and with streetstylers sporting it this way, don't say Riri didn't tell you first. Go for bold and play with texture here, or why not add some sparkle? A good life choice in general.
Crossbody like ASAP Rocky
This variation is the preferred way to sling your belt bag if your style identify fits most with the pretty boy swag of the rap artist above. Go bright, in a durable fabric for the ultimate athleisure aesthetic. Perfect for a no fuss night out and streetwear serving. Waisted like Kendall Jenner
Accentuate your curves like supermodel Kendall by wrapping your belt bag around your waist, or looped into your pants buckles. These looks are the festival outfit inspo you needed and proof that your fanny pack can be both casual for a day out and classy for the evening especially in the model's preferred neutral toned leather variations. Bonus: it looks good on every body type, whether worn in the middle or on the side.
