Netflix and chill is so last winter. Here’s how to do romance in spring
Netflix and chill has served us well during chilly winter when body heat and cuddles were essential to surviving cold fronts. But the with summer on the way, it’s time to take full advantage of the warm weather and still impress your crush (or potential bae). If you’re looking to take your relationship to the next level, here’s how to plan a romantic summer dinner (or lunch, or breakfast if you’re lucky) in the comfort of your own home.
Take it outside
It makes very little sense to be cooped up indoors. Head outside and enjoy the warm weather. Roll out a rug and throw some scatter cushions for a comfortable and cosy setting that’s sure to impress that special someone as soon as they walk in.
Ambience is key
Serenading that special someone is cute in movies but if you don’t have the voice of an angel you should really avoid reaching that level of corny in real life. Keep your guitar in the garage and rather trust the professionals to do it for you.
Light up your love
Depending on what time you decide to invite them over, you won’t have full access to the sunshine, so make sure you’re not left in the dark when the sun with lowkey lighting. It adds to the mood and manages to make you and your crush look like you’ve under an Instagram filter.
Candles are tried and true but if you’re scared you might start a fire, we strongly suggest you try these adorable string lights.
Pour it up, plate it up
They say the way to someone’s heart is through their stomach. Even if you’re a useless cook, you can always order in and make it look like you whipped something together (we don’t encourage that kind of deception, but hey, do what you must...)
There are very few things as awkward and tense as mixed signals. Make sure they know for sure that there’s romance on the table with a heart-shaped wooden board and flirty platter. If you’d rather not be left with the chore of washing the dishes opt for paper plates and napkins, keep your significant other's thirst quenched with a sangria or iced tea in chic tumblers and serve them some dessert, because you learn a lot about a person when you observe their choice of sundae topping.
