Get your living space sprung

Spring is the season for easy-breezy feels. It’s not as hot and sticky as summer, but the temperatures are warm enough for you to live your best carefree life. So, just as your wardrobe does, your space deserves a seasonal reboot too – an ambience overhaul of sorts.
To ensure that your thoughts are flowing in the right direction, we asked Superbalist’s Apartment Editor, Charl Edwards, for key styling tips for that last-minute spring clean. Firstly: florals can look cheesy in spring, so ditch them for “touches and pops of greenery, opting for subtle green cutting for that fresh and less obvious look.”
Sprinkle pops of colour...
"Accessorize with pastels." Florals for spring may not be groundbreaking, but fresh flora adds an energizing sparkle to any room, even better when the pot lives up to the plant.
Pick a pink palette...
While velvets are beautiful year-round, they can be heavy for spring, which is why it’s best to give your home frequent updates. Stocking a cushion cupboard with a variety of fabric choices for the seasons is a handy way to switch up your style when the need arises. "Opt for a combination of soft pastel shades this spring, colour-coding pieces to embrace the gradient effect. Offset these against white backgrounds and wooden floors to round out the look.” And, as much as spring is about colour, reckless colour-blocking is not advised.
Blue is a cool hue...
"If pink is not your thing, go for a cooler green or blue colour palette. Mix prints with textures and play with various sizes. The more, the better."
Add fancy trimmings...
While you may prefer a cozier and more intimate setting in winter, the illusion of more space becomes key as the heat turns up. Sometimes that’s just a matter of playing around with the right lighting. "White or brass lamp shades create the perfect finishing touch for an up-to-date and on-trend look. Compliment with handmade baskets and carpets for a more lived-in and relaxed look perfect for the season.”
Appreciate optical illusions...
Mirrors and big wall clocks are reliable in providing a room with a more sophisticated and mature feel. "Wall clocks act as focal points, while mirrors create the illusion of space." Use a variety of shapes and display at various levels, or lean them against a wall for that lived-in look.
Display-worthy storage items are a sure-fire way to hit two birds with one stone: you get decorative value while keeping the room free of clutter. Opt for cool pastels this season.
Go for texture and print in soft shades
Add dimension and vibrant details with soft-coloured carpets that combine prints with texture and pattern. We suggest opting for the natural, earthy look this season.
