Just blousing

They’re pretty, never prissy, and set to get some sun on your skin

While they have lot in common, the season's hottest tops each have a character all of their own – and you're sure to find one to match yours. New favourites, but far more than an alternative to a T-shirt, the blouse has made a return in the form of pieces with as much precision as playfulness, plus innovation in abundance.

The blouse

Strappy and simple, this piece brings a soft touch to any look.

The personality

She’s one of those people who does everything – not because she doesn’t know what she wants, but because she knows that she wants it all. With a career change every year or so (she switched majors a few times, too) she likes to stay inspired.

The look

Mismatched. Experimental looks pair this pretty piece with simple staples and bolder, on-trend essentials.

The occasion

Well, that’s just the thing: she’s not really the type to dress for a particular event. You’ll catch her expressing herself at all times, whether she’s dancing on a table at a day party or running errands on a sober Saturday morning in the city.

The drink of choice

An energy drink – does she ever stop moving?

The accessory on hand

A cute but highly practical backpack. It could be a classic piece or something to stand out from the crowd – and it doesn’t have to match your outfit. All that matters is that it fits all of your all-night essentials from a creative day job to drinks, to a DJ set, to the after party.

The blouse

Beautiful broderie anglaise sees you set to keep things simple.

The personality

A minimalist, she loves fashion for its function – so a cool, breezy top that feels as good as it looks is a winner.

The look

Casual classics like blue denim never go out of fashion, so she's invested in a pair that's ready to be pulled on with her new favourite pieces and look fresh in a flash – even if they were previously lying discarded on the floor. Sneakers add a touch of fun, and make sure she can keep things moving.

The occasion

In reality? Work or running errands. If it's up to her? A meandering road trip somewhere remote.

The drink of choice

A cider or spritzer, please. Great taste doesn't have to cost the earth, and pretensions have no place in her preferences.

The accessory on hand

Another investment piece: the big, slouchy leather bag that goes everywhere she does and just gets better with age.

The blouse

The woven top trend is sleek, sophisticated and 70s-inspired.

The personality

She loves some luxe in her life, so when you say “70s trends” around her she isn’t thinking boho dreams and suede boots. Instead, her mind goes to Studio 54 nights and fitted looks straight from The Get Down.

The look

Sleek and polished, but with a touch of creativity that you might call “an edge” or “very fashion”.

The occasion

Dinner at the new hotspot in town – if you’re going along with her don’t try Googling the menu, because it’s not online. When she’s not in the mood for being adventurous, find her at her favourite neighbourhood bistro, where starched white tablecloths and polished wood finishes are the order of the day and everybody knows her name.

The drink of choice

A cocktail that looks as good as it tastes.

The accessory on hand

Gold hoop earrings – the bigger the better.

The blouse

Poplin, broderie anglaise and frills.

The personality

No fuss – just frills. A laidback approach to life means that she can get pretty complex when it comes to her wardrobe… You see, she’s got it all under control.

The look

Details, details, details.

The occasion

Popping in at work drinks before catching a gallery opening and then off to a dinner party with an old friend. She’s bringing the wine. And flowers.

The drink of choice

A gin and tonic – ideally with a twist of lemon, but she’s not terribly fussy.

The accessory on hand

Statement heels. Statement clutch.

The blouse

Flowing and floral, this piece is the decorative touch that a pared-down wardrobe has been waiting for.

The personality

After years of normcore and athleisure style, she’s looking to wear something a little… floatier. After all, she’s looking to explore a different side of herself, starting with a yoga class set to Beyoncé’s discography that’s really opening her mind.

The look

She’s not ready to go full boho, so this is the ideal piece for her – paired up with simple pieces, it’s able to steal the show all on its own.

The occasion

Nothing too wild. She’s all about brunch dates these days.

The drink of choice

Either a raw pressed juice or a mimosa. Like we said – brunch.

The accessory on hand

A simple cross-body bag is all she needs to keep the essentials close.
