With the endless dilemma of feels and identity, South African youth are doing the most to both fit in and stand out. This task has led to a wavy socialisation of youth, and this new range for Superbalist explores that. If you’re not lit on the Snaps, poppin’ on the ‘gram, or woke on the blue bird, expect only spicy, salty and shady reactions. This series outlines the tricky nature of being a young South African, livin’ XL with those internet vibes.
Durban-based illustrator Thulisizwe Mamba creates versatile and distinctly African artworks when he isn’t juggling his fledgling music career and job as a graphic designer. His vibrant works centre around the acknowledgment of youth – the emotions, culture and fashion. Specifically using South African youth as a reference point, he explores the nuances of culture and identity in an aesthetically pleasing fashion.
