Being a more environmentally-aware consumer is something more and more people have moved towards in an attempt to help undo years of harm done to Mother Earth. Many cosmetics brands have been at the forefront of this movement, decreasing their carbon footprint and offering more sustainable production and packaging methods. Origins is one of these brands, with environmental awareness as one of the core values underpinning their product lines.
Origins is a pioneer in the skincare space, producing skincare that’s not only good for your skin but the environment too. In honour of Earth Day - celebrated annually on 22 April - we delve into three of the key ways Origins is doing better for the environment and its shoppers.
Origins prides itself on using sustainably-sourced ingredients in its skincare. A key ingredient in their famous Mega-Mushroom line is reishi, also known as the ‘Mushroom of Immortality”, which helps reduce visible irritation while calming the skin. Since it’s rarely found in nature, Origins cultivates its reishi in a controlled environment to ensure consistency and potency. By doing this they can produce it for the Mega-Mushroom range without depleting a rare natural resource.
Origins has partnered with a wide, diverse network of suppliers worldwide to source high-quality ingredients and materials for their products. This network takes special attention and sensitivity to the local communities which they are sourced from.
Packaging of products is often where many changes can be made to improve wastage. One way Origins is doing its part is with its Mega-Mushroom Soothing Treatment Lotion bottle, which is refillable, recyclable or reusable. The implementation of minimal packaging allows for a more sustainable means of production to help ensure low emissions along with incorporating more recyclable or recycled materials across the board. Origins is supporting this by working towards its goal of 85% more mindfully-made packaging.
Over the years, Origins has partnered with various environmental non-profit organisations like One Tree Planted to support tree planting efforts worldwide. With every tree planted, the brand furthers its commitment to restoring ecosystems, fighting climate change and benefiting local communities. Since 2009, Origins has planted over 2.3 million+ trees through their Green the Planet initiative in partnership with One Tree Planted. In 2023, Origins is expanding its tree-planting initiatives across the U.S. and into Asia and Europe.
