You’ll mostly find Cape Town-based fashion and portrait photographer Niquita Bento behind the camera lens, but few will be surprised to discover that she’s just as talented in front of it. From beautiful street-style beginnings, Niquita’s eye has developed into an effortlessly modern aesthetic, carefully capturing the faces and moments in fashion that give cause to pause. “Her distinctly light-hearted yet sophisticated images have appeared on magazine covers, in editorial spreads and in campaigns for national fashion and beauty clients,” says her agency, and her work stands testament to her unique spirit and sharp eye. Naturally, we’re curious to find out more about her expressive, personal winter style.

How would you describe your style?

I would say it's understated-cool. I love mixing timeless tailored items with unexpected trend pieces.

What are your go-to winter pjs?

Sweats, always!

How do you style your loungewear?

I love sweats because they’re so easy to dress up. I'll throw on a trench coat, sneakers and gold jewellery and I'm ready to go.

What is your fashion colour palette for the season?

I’ve always been a big fan of neutrals – grey, black and beige are my go-tos.

Ultimate comfort outfit?

Anything loose-fitting: a crew neck or T-shirt with high-waist slouchy jeans or trousers. It's also my go-to work uniform.

Would you say you’re an experimental dresser or do you prefer a uniform approach?

I think I’m pretty uniform in my dressing. The only experimenting I usually do is with colour, which I wear a lot more of in summer.

What is the best style advice you have ever received?

Jackie Burger taught me the importance and longevity of investment pieces and a capsule wardrobe.

Who has the best style?

Oumayma Elboumeshouli, Josefine HJ and Patricia Manfield to name a few.

Is there anything you are coveting at the moment?

I need the Bottega chain pouch and Loewe sunglasses in my closet!

Anything you’d never wear?

Anything with a peplum hem.

The one item in your wardrobe that defines your style?

My YSL suit jacket or my leather blazer. They're timeless, but still edgy.

What is the one most underrated piece of clothing?

A classic white shirt.

And the most overrated?

Socks, seeing as I can never find them.

What do you love about the piece you are wearing for this campaign?

I love the crew neck. It's versatile enough to dress up and the boxy cut is super modern.

Shopping for clothing is?

Therapeutic.
