8 things we bet you didn’t know

With last year's arrival of locally designed and manufactured beauty products on Superbalist, our skincare-obsessed minds got busy thinking about the face, hair and body goods that are as great for our skin as they are for our communities. It’s worth remembering that beauty brands that produce ranges and source packaging locally give South African businesses a better chance to succeed. What’s not to love about that? While we’re at it, here are eight things you might not know about our new local beauty brands offering, giving you nine more reasons to love them.
1. AT CLOSE RANGE
It should come as no surprise that brands that manufacture locally can take advantage of the bounty of natural ingredients available in South Africa. Lulu and Marula, which carries extensive face and body ranges, uses African-sourced ingredients such as marula oil – one of the best natural sources of vitamin C and E.
2. MOTHER NATURE KNOWS BEST
Some of the best products contain powerful ingredients taken straight from nature, keeping the offering as organic as possible. Agewell, a subsidiary of the much-loved Nimue skincare empire, makes use of active botanical ingredients such as pumpkin enzymes and rye seed extract, and also ensures that each product’s ingredients are clearly listed. Keep in mind, however, that while using natural products may benefit certain skin types, they can cause irritation for others.

It’s understandable that local brands have a unique understanding of what we want for our skin and hair. Suki Suki Naturals is a prime example of this. Founder Linda Gieskes-Mwamba created her own range to fill the gap in the market for premium African, natural haircare and skincare.
