Last year, New Balance launched a programme letting Last year, New Balance launched a programme letting designers play around with the brand’s technologies and silhouettes. The programme recently launched its second shoe, the Project 2, and the result is a maximalist sneaker reminiscent of a science fiction movie. The sneaker displays a retro-inspired upper on the brand’s Fresh Foam More performance sole, along with striking accents, bold colours and translucent material that will warrant more than a few stares. Adara Dillabaugh, a 23-year-old apprentice at New Balance’s Design Foundry, designed the Project 2 as part of a challenge to create a shoe that each designer could see themselves wearing, with the Fresh Foam More midsole as the primary component. The Project 2 sneaker also features a grid design tucked beneath leather overlays, a strip of tape with the New Balance logo and a tongue that rises high with pull tabs for easy wear and removal.
