Leep selects and mixes a set of house and techno tracks with a tight melodic flow
Filipe Dias discovered the art of DJing at just 10-years-old and after listening and collecting all sorts of different genres he soon began playing school socials and house parties, and has been driven by sound ever since.
With a passion for all types of music, Leep's love lies in African house and techno and goes about his work quietly without any fuss. However, put him behind the decks and he knows how to express himself and speak to a crowd through music. His mature sense of selection and style leaves a huge impact on the crowd during and after his performance and he says he prefers to limit his words and rather speak through his music.
Give his mix a listen and read a quick Q&A with the exciting young DJ after the jump.
What was the first album you bought?
That would probably be jungle, I love their electronic vibe.
Describe your dance style?
My dance style - that's a good question. I would say appreciative and energetic, at times.
What's in mix you made us?
The mix I made is something a little different. It includes a selection of house and some techno with a very tight melodic and vibey flow throughout especially curated to create a unique journey for the listeners that won't be forgotten. Selection is always a big thing for me and I feel as if I hit the nail on the head with this one, enjoy!
Which artists do you enjoy playing with?
I have many artist acquaintances but I wouldn't say artist peers because I've kept myself fairly exclusive and underground up till now, but things are slowly starting to happen my side with regards to growing the dance and rave culture through the music I play. I do believe that each DJ is contributing in their own way to promote and get people to appreciate the musical culture and create togetherness socially in SA.
Where can we see you play?
I host my own monthly exclusive intimate techno events at the Retro Room in Edenvale, Gauteng, so you can check me there in 2019, I'll also be playing at a couple of other venues, details to be announced in the new year!
Anything to add?
In order to try and spread the dance culture and love for the music in SA I have started my own music inspired clothing called LeepClothing.
