By Shai Rama

Based in Cape Town, Cordovan Ghostal has been making waves with his idiosyncratic sound, standout features and mysterious online presence. The 23-year-old producer has frequently collaborated with UK rapper DanielOG and ensured us that we can be expecting more collaborations with a variety of artists in the near future.

Moving between London, Joburg and Cape Town, Cordovan Ghostal has an eclectic taste in sound and this is conveyed in the the playlist that he's made for us featuring a variety of artists like Bakar, Alexandria and Ethereal.

Check out the playlist below as well as a short Q & A with Cordovan Ghostal after the jump.

What made you choose music?

It first probably started with my cousin because he used to play a lot of different genres around me. I listened to a lot of jazz and hip-hop that he introduced me to. Ultimately, because he produced music and I hung around him a lot, so it's just something I picked up in the end. Also, video games that I played when I was younger - I found some soundtracks really appealing.

How would you describe your sound?

My sound is pretty much a mix of jazz, R&B, hip-hop and electronic music.

What were the first albums that you bought?

The Cool by Lupe Fiasco and Tha Carter III by Lil Wayne are the first albums that I remember buying, to be honest.

If you could collab with anyone who would it be?

I'd say Pharrell Williams, Tyler The Creator, Roy Ayers and Skepta.

What inspired your name?

The first half, Cordovan, is a type of burgundy – my favourite colour at the time. And the second half, Ghostal, is inspired by Adult Swim's show Space Ghost Coast To Coast.

Describe this mix you've made for us?

Mainly stuff that I'm listening to right now, stuff that's inspiring me to make the music I'm making right now. A lot of it is also music I like that's made by my homies, too.
