The DJ Skinniez EP
Son of South African Jazz legend, Hotep Idris Galeta, the 22-year old DJ and producer Harold Galeta aka Skinniez has dropped his first EP.
Influenced by a multitude of cultures whilst growing up, due in large part to his bouncing from Cape Town to the States to the Eastern Cape to Johanessburg and then finally back home to the Cape, Skinniez started out doing food themed mixes and realized that he was onto something when he saw that his first mix had received over 6k downloads.
Where would we have heard you play before?
"I played at this year's Oppikoppi Festival and that was a really humbling experience, playing for over 20 000 people. It made me want to take my music more seriously."
And who are those people at the start and finish of the EP?
"My mom, grandmother and ex girlfriend. I could say that without those three ladies I wouldn't be where I am right now. Or even have the drive to keep going. So they are sort of my muses."
Lastly, what's up with the album art?
"That was a real labor of love for me. I used photos of myself and things that looked cool to me. I sort of just cut and pasted every single photo until it looked good. I had some help with recreating my face, a really awesome fine art student by the name of Ross Culverwell. Basically its a collage of memories."
