DJ Mo'Fly has some earworms for you
Morne Van Zyl quit his job in IT to focus on a more creative vocation. He is now a professional photographer specializing in people, with clients that include Red Bull, Kulula, GQ, Wired and British Airways.
But wait, there’s more.
Morne is also something of a music nut and as DJ Mo’Fly makes mixtapes “just like the old days” which he then sometimes spins at The House of Machines.
In case you're not from "the old days", this is what guys like Morne had to go through.
"Somewhere in the late eighties I got a Blaupunkt double-casette deck. That was a happy day. I taped stuff off the radio and cursed when the DJ spoke over the song. Spent hours timing songs searching for that elusive 90 second track to fill up side A of my TDK C90. Hand-wrote track-lists and illustrated the cassette inner-sleaves. Then made copies and passed them on to friends. And unsuspecting girls. Things are different now. Easier I guess. But I still love the potential of the perfectly curated sixty or ninety minutes of music."
Perhaps it's because of this that Morne's musical knowledge is unparalleled and it’s rumoured that he’s yet to lose a music round at a pub quiz in the greater Western Cape area.
