#FOLLOWFRIDAY - The Tokyo Edition

Local knowledge that will help you to know before you go

Superbalist social media (insert preferred naming device here) Xand Venturas has cherry-picked five Instagrammers who will inspire you to enter our #LetsGoTokyo competition in which we're giving away a R70k experience.

Yuma Yamashita

Yuma Yamashita is a photographer and Tokyo native. He has a knack for capturing Tokyo’s urban and rural landscapes in such a way that it makes the city and the surrounding nature equally spellbounding. His photos of Tokyo have been featured by Herschel Supply for their ‘City Limitless’ campaign, so if that doesn’t tell you the dude’s legit, I don’t know what will.

Haruka

Haruka is a fashionable young lady who works at/owns/models for (I don’t know I can’t read Japanese) Barrack Room - a store in the Shibuya District of Tokyo, widely regarded as one of the most fashionable areas in the world. Her Instagram feed is littered with bright, quirky outfits and unique accessories that would inspire any fashion lover.

Junko Suzuki

Followers: 18.2k

Handle: junkosuzuki

Junko Suzuki is a blogger and artist whose subdued aesthetic shows Tokyo through a dreamy, pastel-coloured lense. Her feed is made up of images of the landscapes of Tokyo, her outfits, her rad purple hair, products she’s using and her cute-as-hell cat, Jijico.

Yuko

Followers: 50.4k

Handle: yukomouton

Yuko is a fashion designer for a Tokyo-based brand called Black Mouton, but her Instagram feed is a celebration of Tokyo’s architectural wonders. She manages to capture the light and lines of the city in such a mesmerising way, I often find myself staring at one of her images for minutes, taking all of the details in.

Horimitsu

Followers: 21k

Handle: horimitsu

Horimitsu is a traditional Japanese tattoo artist in the Toshima district of Tokyo who tattoos in the Tebori style (the technique of tattooing by hand). If you’re hip enough to be a Vice regular, you’ll know that Japan has an amazing tattoo culture and Horimitsu is right in the thick of it. He shares candid photos of his work, ranging from discrete lotus flowers to enormous dragons across people’s backs.
