Felix Laband Deaf Safari

Felix Laband launches new album with unique live shows that you can win tickets to

Deaf Safari was released by Compost Records on 29 May 2015, ten years since Felix Laband's last release.

Now the highly regarded electronic artist will unveil his long-awaited new album Deaf Safari via two live shows at Cape Town’s New Space Theatre on July 10th and 11th.

Laband’s shows promise a darkly emotive encounter as he performs unique, deconstructed live renditions of the album, in collaboration with visual artist Kerry Chaloner and Jazz virtuoso Shane Cooper.

Composed of sampled recordings from the media landscape and taking inspiration from both kwaito house and American Roots music of the earlier parts of the 20th century, Laband describes Deaf Safari as “an audio collage of subjects that speak of the world I live in”.

In an artist statement released with the album Laband says, “I am truly excited to release this album and to start performing in the music world again. It has been ten years since I released Dark Days Exit, and although I have been purposefully absent from the music world, I have nonetheless never stopped making music. I feel that I have finally arrived at a mature and challenging stage in my pursuit of making emotional music of relevance."

Widely regarded as one of the most innovative and gifted electronic artists to emerge from South Africa, since the 2001 release of his first full-length album, Thin Shoes In June Felix Laband has toured extensively around the country and abroad, garnering international attention for his evocative electronic music. 2002 saw the release of 4/4 Down The Stairs with a controversial launch at Teazer's Strip Club. In 2005 Laband signed with German label Compost Records and released the acclaimed Dark Days Exit.

Since its release at the end of May, Deaf Safari has been met with critical acclaim - including an 8/10 rating from Mixmag - and good news for Laband’s extensive South African-based fanbase is that Deaf Safari will be on sale at the launch with the CD costing R150,00 and imported 2 X LP vinyls costing R350.00. There are only a limited number of vinyls available for sale in South Africa but pre-orders can be made by emailing Andrew@blackmajor.co.za.
