Join our journey to becoming more environmentally and socially conscious. We’re on a journey to become more conscious by championing local brands on our platform, sourcing more sustainable materials and products, making changes to our packaging, + hiring policies. We’re not perfect, but we hope these small steps will make a difference. You can take the journey with us by supporting the following conscious causes.
Our Private Label brands have introduced more sustainable materials like organic cotton and recycled PET into our ranges. We print our fabrics using digital printing, which uses less solvents and creates less water pollution than traditional printing. We also print onto more sustainably-sourced viscose, and make use of more sustainable fibres like seagrass, sisal and jute in our homeware range.
We stock 112 local fashion, beauty and homeware brands including lelive, GUGU INTIMATES, SKOON. and more that help increase job creation, support our local communities, and build the South African economy.
Our Conscious offerings include locally made products, vegan products, products that have not been tested on animals, and organic products. We also stock brands that support the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), the world’s largest cotton sustainability programme. Brands such as Sealand, Tretorn and Dr Bronner, offer products made from more sustainable materials that are better for the environment, like recycled polyester and ethically sourced cotton.
On Superbalist.com, you can shop products made from more sustainable materials like recycled polyester and ethically sourced cotton, as well as upcycled cotton + recycled PET bottle polyester. We also stock vegan products, as well as products that have not been tested on animals.
Some of the brands we stock belong to the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), the world’s largest cotton sustainability programme. The BCI aims to make global cotton production better for cotton producers and the environment by training over 2.3 million cotton farmers in 23 countries on more sustainable farming practices.
We stock brands that that use certified organic fibres in their items. These organic fibres are natural fibres grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, insecticides, herbicides + GMOs. This helps sustain the health of ecosystems, soils and people.
Our warehouses employ energy-saving efforts and our delivery structure is becoming more eco-conscious.
In place of traditional lighting, The Takealot Group warehouses have energy-efficient LEDs with motion sensors to ensure the facilities are only illuminated when they are in use. Solar panels have been installed in the Johannesburg distribution centre to generate electricity for the facility.
The Takealot Group has rolled out electric cars and e-bikes to transport goods. Our e-bikes have low operational costs as they use no petrol. They produce zero emissions and zero noise, making them better for the environment. Another bonus is that these e-bikes are easy-to-use and make driver recruitment a more accessible process for all.
Our delivery boxes are FSC-approved and 100% recyclable. FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is the world’s largest forest certification system, created to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests. Being FSC-certified means that products are made from wood harvested from responsibly managed forests that are environmentally, socially and economically beneficial.
We believe fashion is for everyone. That’s why we’ve collaborated with The Street Store, the world’s first free pop-up store for the homeless. Our Richmond Click + Collect pickpoint features delivery bins where customers can donate their pre-loved clothing and shoes. These donations will go towards someone in need.
