AT HOME WITH NDAVI NOKERI

“Shock. When my name was announced, I think you could tell the shock on my face,” shares Ndavi Nokeri, newly crowned Miss South Africa 2022. As the nation bore witness to yet another life change in front of our eyes, a crown was laid on a head chosen to represent the country; it was a brief shock that raced through Ndavi’s body.

Today, as she glides around her beautifully lit new apartment it appears it’s not only her crown that shimmers and sparkles. In this impeccably furnished space - think suede chairs, lush cushions, and spotless mirrors - Ndavi seems to have settled into her reign. Bedecked in a playful jumpsuit From Superbalist (she describes her style as cute but powerful) while sitting casually on an occasional chair, Miss SA fondly shares that throughout the journey she got to know all her fellow contestants and lived with them for two months.

“I thought to myself, ‘these women are so incredible, any of us could take this.’”

This oasis fit for a queen is located in northern Johannesburg. It boasts panoramic views, contrasting furniture, delicately-placed decor and luxurious fabrics. Upon arrival, one can easily spot details and furniture by Sixth Floor as well as other brands available on Superbalist. But this is not just a luxury apartment - for a year, Ndavi Nokeri will call this home as she seeks to make her mark in the world, chasing purpose and a brighter future for those she represents.

With fervour and conviction, she jolted our hearts and minds awake when she answered, “It is our responsibility to ensure that we create a sustainable, innovative and most importantly, an inclusive South Africa so that we can unlock opportunities for all.”

Hailing from humble beginnings, Ndavi is quite evidently fueled by generosity - the kind that is rooted in a deep understanding of the practical yet magnificent consequences of sharing and community.

“I’ve always been generous because my parents really taught me the essence of giving back and when I found this [pageantry] space I really knew that I belonged.”

So how will the new Miss SA be spending leisure time in her new home? Well, in between a few chuckles, the 23-year-old BCom Investment Management graduate reveals that her zodiac sign is Aquarius (very befitting as the sign of the humanitarian) and that she grounds herself by spending time with friends and family.

“I really gain energy from being around friends and family and that’s what makes me an extrovert,” she expresses. And when the board games come out to play, her competitive streak creeps in.

“I enjoy playing board games because my competitive edge just has to have an outlet somehow.”

Even extroverts need some alone time and the Tzaneen-bred beauty is no exception.

“I love being alone because I get to gather my thoughts and think about where I am and reflect. I want to operate from a place of self-awareness because one can easily discern the opportunities that are in alignment with them from that space,” Ndavi explains.

As an unapologetic optimist, a home with great lighting is essential for Ndavi.

“I love that this place has these wide glass doors and that I can just step outside and welcome so much light,” she says as she gestures towards the window panes that capture a picturesque view of Johannesburg.

In a world where resources and opportunities for expansion, growth, and freedom are limited to many, Ndavi is excited to implement plans to empower people from rural communities.

She adds: “I think it’s time we bridge the gap between those who have access and those who don’t. I want to ensure that all learners have equal access to opportunities both tangible and intangible - including reframing their mentality.”

Worth is something we are taught. When leaders and communities pour into the lives of young people, they gain the confidence to pursue their dreams fearlessly - a gift Miss South Africa 2022 hopes to share with others.

“Walking on this journey is a testament that anything is possible,” she proclaims with deep sincerity.

She describes her hopes and dreams for her reign in three words; “impact, hope, and revolution.”
