She shares her sunny style, favourite picnic spots + why she loves Stellies
Just one scroll through Kelsey Petersen’s Instagram feed and it’s clear that summer is her favourite season.
Filled with glamorous poolside poses, beach-filled days basking in the sun and of course, the most fetching swimwear and summer outfits, the model and Stellenbosch local loves discovering her town.
South Africa’s second-oldest town, Stellenbosch, is one of the most inspiring wine, food, art, and cultural destinations. And the scenic wine route is favoured both by locals and tourists.
“I live in Stellenbosch, a small town outside of Cape Town. It is filled with the cutest coffee shops around every corner which is perfect for a coffee fanatic such as myself. Meeting up with friends during the week means finding a new coffee spot,” Kelsey says.
Picturesque, quaint, and filled with many hidden gems, it’s not hard to enjoy the town while you are getting your daily steps in.
“Every morning I try to go for a run through the vineyards in Paradyskloof, and then grab a green juice from Kauai or make one at home with the fruit and veg that I buy from the Food Lovers Market,” the model shares.
When it comes to shopping, this charming town has some of the most unique and well-curated shops. From locally-owned stores to fashionable boutiques, you are bound to find something cool and eclectic.
“I recently discovered a shop in Stellenbosch that sells thatched plant holders and gorgeous plants, it is called Adam & Eve Collab,” shares Kelsey.
Although she enjoys her own hometown, Cape Town is also one of her go-to summer cities.
“My favourite spot for a picnic has to be at the beach (Bakoven preferably). Although this is a distance from where I live, this is where you’ll find me most summers,” she says.
And if she is not reclining on a picnic chair, you can find her at one of Cape Town’s many farmers markets. “I enjoy a drive out to the Oranjezicht City Farm Market on warm Sunday for brunch and I am always spoiled for choice with food!” says Kelsey.
What is the one item in your wardrobe that defines your Spring/Summer style?
Definitely a pair of denim shorts. I love its versatility and the fact that I can dress it up or down.
What is the most underrated piece of clothing?
A slip dress is the most underrated piece of clothing.
What is the one most overrated piece of clothing?
The most overrated piece of clothing - to me - is a bucket hat.
What do you love about the piece you are wearing for this campaign?
The quality of all the pieces in this campaign is incredible and all of the items are extremely comfortable. I love that you don’t have to worry about anything popping out. It is perfect for a day at the beach with your friends or a pool day with your family.
How are you going to style it this summer?
The shoes are perfect and work with any summer look. The bikini works perfectly with the throw, so I’ll most definitely keep wearing that combo all through summer. And because it’s white, it goes with most of my swimwear.
The earrings make such a statement - I’ll pair them with something minimal like a slip dress and style my hair up or back, to show them off.
When it comes to your wardrobe, would you say you are more experimental or do you take on a uniform approach to dressing?
I would say a bit of both. Although I have often gravitated toward a certain style, I still try to change things up by experimenting with the pieces that I like.
What is the best style advice you have ever received?
The best style advice that I have received is that less is more.
