Thato “TeeKay” Mahapa is a busy young man: running his own business, curating his hugely popular male grooming blog and bagging GQ awards. And after years of sleepless nights spent getting his LLB Degree, how does he still look so fresh?

With such a busy schedule, TeeKay’s flawless skin, perfectly coiffed beard and barely a hint of dark circles or puffiness under his eyes shouldn’t be possible, right? Think again.

We caught up with TeeKay to find out how anyone can achieve his fresh-faced look.

On his grooming routine

It consists of a cleanser, toner, serum, essence, moisturiser and sunscreen. In the evening it’s the same, except I pre-cleanse using an oil cleanser. I exfoliate twice a week with a gentle chemical exfoliator, and apply a sheet mask once a week.

TeeKay’s Top Tip: Your choice of the right combination of cleanser, toner and moisturiser depends whether you have normal, dry, or oily skin.

On his skin type and what works best for it

My skin seems normal now. I used to think it was oily but it was just acne. Consistency with my routine, monthly facials, and a decent diet works wonders.

On nutricosmetics to help maintain skin

I use retinol, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and some stuff that contains Niacinamide.

TeeKay’s Top Tip: Nutricosmetics offer a wide-range of benefits to the skin, such as softening lines and wrinkles, and improving elasticity and roughness.

On 4 products that every man should have in their grooming kit

A high SPF moisturiser, a great scent and retinol.

On trimming his own beard and what trimmer he uses

I use the Philips One Blade but any good quality trimmer will also do the job.

On masking and its benefits

Masking is great for targeting problem areas on your skin by delivering a significant amount of nutrients to it.

On keeping his beard in tip-top shape

I swear by organic Shea butter, but I also shampoo and condition my beard.

TeeKay’s Top Tip: The secret to a healthy, good looking beard is regular use of high-quality products that promote thickness, shine and growth.

On why lip care is important

The last thing anyone wants to see is chapped, dry lips. I use a lip mask.

On why sun protection is part of his routine

It’s a very important part of any skincare regimen. It protects my skin from harmful UV rays, and is great for treating and avoiding dark spots and premature ageing.
