Plus how to style them with this season’s best-selling pieces
Pants are fairly to easy to figure out once you’re sure of your waist size, found your signature cut and have decided what you’re buying them for (will you be wearing them to your next braai or that big pitch presentation?) After this you’re sorted for life.
What can change, however, is how every season brings with it a whole new batch of details and must-have updates to keep your look fresh. That and how you choose to style them. We’ve made our pick of the three pants you’ll need to keep on rotation for the rest of this season, along with all the different tops, outerwear and shoes you can style them with. Scroll down to find out what you need to add to your cart.
Slim-fit and light-wash jeans
The latest must-have style: Slim-fit and light washed. Fashion’s having a bit of a 90s moment and pants are getting wider too, so a skater-esque style is right on-trend. If you’re looking for something you can dress up, go for a skinnier fit.
Style these with… Retro sneakers and a colour block sweatshirt to match. For a more low-key look, try minimalist white sneakers and an overshirt. Cover up with a camel coat and you’ll look just as good as your Instagram fave.
Cropped chinos
The latest must-have style: Tough-looking, long-lasting, extra durable utility styles with a cropped hem. You don’t have to necessarily go full cargo pant, but the latest offering of chinos are built for the man on the go — whether he’s having cocktails or picking up DIY tools, he’ll look good doing it.
Style these with… Your functional go-tos. Think long-sleeve tees, overshirts, check shirts and trucker jackets. Layering is also key here, so keep your top items slightly oversized.
Side-stripe sweats
The latest must-have style: A slim, tailored fit is the most important aspect. How subdued or colourful you get is up to you, as long as it balances out the rest of your look. Tricot fabrications are back on bestseller lists, and they’re great if you’re moving to and from gym, otherwise keep it simple in a fleece pair.
Style these with… Statement sneakers and something casual above the belt (and, also NB: underwear). If you’re wearing a matching top and bottom, team the duo with minimalist sneakers. If not, rep your favourite brand with a branded top.
