It’s not quite the time to pull out your entire winter wardrobe; and considering that a crisp in the air is the most chill we’ve been getting lately, it might be a long wait. But what does that mean for dressing up on the daily? When summer is over, but winter won’t commit, the key is to get clever with layering: throw on pieces you can easily shed over summery staples.

As counterintuitive as it may feel, summer is not the only moment for your floral frock to shine. Paired with a puffer or with a tee slipped under, dresses are the closet heroes to take you from one season to the next.

So, as we wait for winter to set in, these are the stylish reactions we suggest you have to your weather app's predictions...

After the "rain"...

A turtleneck and slip dress are the perfect pair for that tricky post-drizzle weather where the sun is trying to make a comeback but the clouds are still casting major shade. Depending on the actual temperature, you can manage this look with just boots and bare legs, but there is enough room to add over-the-knee socks or stockings to the mix, if the chill is real.

When it's mostly sunny and pleasant

An unlikely combination for the months leading up to winter, but a blouse and a body con are the best way to deal with the type of weather that looks pleasantly warm from inside your home, but has a slight bite when you step out.

When it's cloudy AF

A cowl neck knit and midi maxi are your power pair for when cloud coverage and winter gloom are a real thing. Depending on your height, the best way to elevate this look is with peep-toe booties, you might also be able to get away with a pair of statement sneakers, if you're in the right mood.

When the rain is tapering to a shower...

It's cold, the drizzle is turning into a shower and this is where you morph into the undisputed Queen of layering. Pull on a sweater and puffer over a floral midi to brave the cold. This look gets bonus points for allowing you the option to remove the jacket when you get indoors and the temperature is warmer... Remember to mind your sneakers.
