The good boyfriend

The slouchy new staple

You already know that boyfriend jeans have a looser, casual, off-duty fit.

You might not know that the tapering of the jeans is what makes or breaks them.

You might not know that you can wear them to the office. Pair them with some brogues or heels and a white shirt or blazer and you’ve earned yourself some serious style points.

Wear them right now ripped and distressed, in a light wash.

If they’re an investment buy them in a mid blue, with slight distressing and tapered, rolled-up ankles. This style has been a go-to since forever.

Wear them with a cropped, long-sleeved tee.

The celebrities wearing ‘em best are Rihanna, Jessica Alba, and Miranda Kerr.

You’ll wish someone had told you to not go too baggy - that goes for the top and bottom. You still need to hint at what’s underneath.

Blogger tryout: Thithi Nteta in boyfriend jeans

We’ve been following Thithi’s blogging journey for a while and this gorgeous woman has made the transition from feminine and pretty to edgy-yet-elegant fashion star so seamlessly that she's probably left more than a few other fashion bloggers more than a little jealous. Whether she’s nailing off-duty looks or tackling front row-worthy workwear she does it all with crazy style. For this look, she took a little inspiration from each – with effortlessly cool results. The blazer and tee have a sophisticated feel while the streetwear edge of the Nike Air Max 95 OGs and ripped G-Star jeans tailor this look to the modern woman’s urban lifestyle.

Here's what Thithi had to say about her new boyfriends.

I chose these jeans because my cupboard is filled with dark-wash skinnies and it’s good to try new things. Finding a pair of boyfriend fit jeans in raw denim that accommodate a booty can seem like an unconquerable challenge; that is until I tried on the G-Star Raw 3D Arc denims.

I love them because they're so versatile. Since I got them I’ve worn them to everything from meetings to evening drinks and even Fashion Week. I enjoy the drop crotch and how they narrow from the knee to the hem. It’s so flattering. I also love the fact that they can be styled up or down with a simple shoe change.

If there's one thing I've learnt, it's that premium denim brands are where the perfect fit lives. I've gone from owning no denim to being the girl with over ten pairs of jeans – and I wear them all, whether skinny or boyfriend, tight or wide, fitted or loose.
